In a year punctuated with success, 2012 also saw the introduction of Chris and Gary, 2 memorable Cash Generator characters who fronted a national TV advertising campaign for the brand. Rysia, who exudes entrepreneurial spirit, opened her first Cash Generator store in Lowestoft in August 2008, which was named ‘New Store of the Year’ within its first 12 months. Since then, Rysia has continually smashed all her store targets and notched up several accolades in recognition of her achievements.

In consecutive years Rysia won third and first place respectively in the Platinum Club, an initiative set up by the retailer to reward the best performing franchisees, which continues to drive competition and improvement within the network.

Rysia’s dedication, drive and desire to succeed are at the heart of all she does and this is evident in the success she has celebrated over the last five years. Working hard to prove herself in a male dominated industry has had its challenges as Rysia explains: “There is a perception that to work in this industry you need to be tough to deal with everything it throws at you, but really it is just like every other business. You need to work hard, have good customer service skills and tackle every challenge with enthusiasm.”

“I actually think women bring a softer side to the perceived hardness of the buy, sell and loan industry. I believe I can offer my customers more flexibility, understanding and, as a result, a better service and I’d encourage more women to enter the industry.”

Rysia initially developed a passion for franchising when she picked up a franchise brochure at the airport after travelling the globe looking for a property investment. Following many years of working in the financial services industry, Rysia felt it was time to embark on a new challenge and planned to invest in property.

Commenting on switching her decision from property to franchising, Rysia said: “Travel is a passion of mine so I took to the skies and travelled the world looking at property, particularly in South Africa and Canada. However, after reading a franchise publication the concept of investing in a franchise became a clear path to take so I took some time researching potential opportunities.”

‘Cash Generator really stood out. It was a solid industry and the company provided a multi-income stream which I thought would weather all economic conditions. With a background in finance, I knew that I could do well. “

The support offered by Cash Generator was integral to Rysia’s decision and after securing a site in Lowestoft, Rysia underwent eight weeks of intensive training provided by Cash Generator and was soon ready to open up.

“This was the first time I had set up my own business so I was a bit wary and unsure, but the support I received from Cash Generator was exceptional, I couldn’t have asked for anything more. My initial fear of trying to make it as a female franchisee in such a male-oriented industry was also short lived, as the backing from Cash Generator was first class.”

Five years on, Rysia is still receiving exactly the same level of backing and support from Cash Generator that she got on day one: “To be honest, I was expecting the support to diminish after I’d established myself but that couldn’t be further from the truth. My regional manager is a fantastic support, he is always at the end of the phone and never too busy to offer help and advice.

Rysia believes that the success of the Cash Generator concept is due to its multiple revenue streams: “The retail landscape has changed considerably from a few years ago. There has been a huge shift in consumer spending and shopping habits, but Cash Generator is ideally placed to deal with this due to the many services it offers, ensuring that there is always something that the consumer wants.”

While Cash Generator has developed a proven business model, it still takes a dedicated and determined franchisee to make it the success it can be and Rysia believes you must have a love for what you do to succeed in any industry.

Offering advice to other women looking to triumph in business, Rysia said: “With any business you will experience highs and lows and the only way you will get through the lows is if you are doing something you have a genuine passion for. Whatever path you decide to take, it should be something you already have an interest in and then you will be prepared to do whatever it takes to make it work.

“I would also say believe in yourself and trust your own judgement. When I first started the business I would often doubt my decisions and take advice and check everything with someone else but you should follow your own instinct, it will usually lead you down the right path. It is important to make your own decisions so you can make your own mistakes, as that is how you learn and become a better business person. The beauty of joining a franchise operation is that you have the freedom of running your own business but the ability to draw on the support and experience available from your franchisor.”

In the last five years Rysia has seen her store go from strength to strength under her strong leadership. Constantly exceeding sales year on year, Rysia has also continued to increase her customer base to build a loyal level of repeat business.

Rysia is testament to what can be achieved with a Cash Generator franchise, for those that have a drive and determination to succeed with a business model that can deliver fantastic results.

The franchise AGM, hosted at Hinkley Island in Leicester was a fantastic 2 day event, including the annual trade fair, presentations from suppliers including Western Union and Fexco as well as a round up of annual performance and ongoing strategy from members of the senior management team. It’s fair to say the gala dinner, followed by this years awards ceremony was the obvious highlight for most, not least due to the comedy act and award presentations from Cash Generator’s famous ‘employees’ Chris & Gary aka Daniel & Martin, the stars of our successful ‘We’ll buy it’ and ‘Bring and Buy Back’ campaigns.

The promising football team has been personally selected by the store at North Point Shopping Centre to receive a brand new kit, ensuring the budding footballers start the new season looking their best on the pitch.

Committed to the newly formed partnership, Cash Generator franchisee, Mike Beswick, made a surprise visit to the East Hull Saints’ recent training session to deliver their new kits.

Mike comments: “Earlier this year I invested in Hull opening a second Cash Generator store in the city.  I wanted to give something back to the community and the East Hull Saints are a big part of the local area.

“I was delighted to be able to watch the boys training and was thrilled to deliver the kits to them.  It will be great to see the team scoring goals wearing their new kit next season.”

Showcasing the kit for the first time, the Glenrothes Strollers under 13s girls football team held an impromptu fashion show at the store in Lyon Square Kingdom Centre.

Eastbourne Town under 8's at Cash Generator opening

Cash Generator scored at the opening of its new store on Terminus Road in Eastbourne with former Chelsea player, Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris.

Harris, who was the first Chelsea captain to lift the FA Cup, arrived at the store in a celebratory mood, still cheering on his team after Chelsea’s recent FA Cup win against Liverpool and ahead of the forthcoming Champions League final.

To kick off the day, Harris officially opened the Cash Generator store, cutting the blue ribbon and welcoming shoppers through the doors for the first time.

Joining the Chelsea legend at the store was Eastbourne Town Youth FC under 8s team, who grilled the football pundit on his notorious tough-tackling, particularly against the likes of George Best.

Wearing brand new kits provided by Cash Generator, the young footballers were keen to show off their skills for the Chelsea legend.
